Four employees talking in front of a smartboard

What our employees say about us

What do our employees think about us and their job? We asked them for their views on DB Cargo BTT as an employer.

Silvio – Account manager and part-time student

"The company gives me plenty of freedom and my managers trust me"

Silvio – Account manager and part-time student

"I work as an account manager in the chemicals unit, where I look after key accounts from the initial enquiry right through to invoicing. This involves developing new transport concepts, preparing offers and advising my customers on all aspects of their transports. Of course, I also work closely with my colleagues at DB Cargo BTT and DB Cargo.

I started as a junior with DB Cargo BTT a few years ago after qualifying from a vocational training programme in business. With the help of my new employer, I then successfully completed my Chamber of Commerce and Industry programme in business administration alongside my job.

What I like about my role is that there are always new tasks and it's a flexible place to work. I'm also proud that I've been able to grow my customer relationships so well. The company gives me plenty of freedom and my managers trust me. And thanks to flexible arrangements on working hours and location, I can shape my work-life balance to give me time for my hobbies."

Claus-Peter – Senior process manager, joined as a working student

"We have new challenges every day and it never gets boring"

Claus-Peter – Senior process manager, joined as a working student

"I'm a senior process manager in the IT and Process Management department, where I'm responsible for requirement and project management. Our focus is on developing software and interfaces for our transport services. We use these applications to improve communications with our customers and make our internal processes a little bit better with every day that passes.

I find my responsibilities extremely varied. We have new challenges every day and it never gets boring. In a fast-moving, agile environment, we need to enjoy change and have a certain amount of stamina.

I started at DB Cargo BTT as a working student, initially in a completely different department, then in IT and Process Management. I was able to progress quickly – to trainee, process manager and then senior manager."

Stefan – Dangerous goods safety adviser with a wealth of experience

"I'm in constant dialogue, right across the hierarchy."

Stefan – Dangerous goods safety adviser with a wealth of experience

"I'm the dangerous goods safety adviser at DB Cargo BTT. As we mainly transport dangerous goods, it's important that we know the relevant national and international legal requirements inside out and implement them accordingly. My role at DB Cargo BTT is to accompany these processes and support the entire company.

Our dangerous goods transports must be precisely coordinated with all those involved, both internally with colleagues from sales, equipment and operations, and externally with customers, partners, suppliers and the Group companies.

I've been at DB Cargo BTT since 2018. Before that, I gathered years of experience working in all sorts of different areas as a management assistant for freight forwarding and logistics. I became a qualified dangerous goods safety adviser in 2011.

What I like about my job is that every day is different. The tasks are varied and challenging, and I'm constantly in dialogue with internal and external counterparts right across the hierarchy. Of course, I also make regular site visits to various locations."

Rebecca - Accountant, joined as a trainee

"I know the process chain all the way from sales to scheduling and billing"

Rebecca - Accountant, joined as a trainee

"I was always good at numbers and chemistry. So my training for an office management role at DB Cargo BTT was the perfect fit. I was able to get to know every part of the company during my two-and-a-half-year training programme. Once I'd completed it, I went straight into accounting. My tasks include invoicing for freight forwarding services, but also handling customer complaints and queries. It helps that I got to know so many people during my training and can now get quick answers to my questions.

I particularly like the fact that I'm in contact with many different people and that I know the entire process chain all the way from sales to scheduling and billing. I was already given a lot of responsibility during my training. At the same time, I received great support so that I was able to cope well with my tasks and also participate in new projects."

Kai, Head of Customer Solutions CT – moved from controlling to product management

"We push new ideas forward as a team."

Kai, Head of Customer Solutions CT – moved from controlling to product management

"In Customer Solutions CT, my team and I develop new transport concepts for customers in combined transport (CT), whether by road, rail or a mixture of the two. We work closely together with the customers and our colleagues from the Sales department.

I started my career as a cooperative education student in sales controlling at DB Cargo, which I really enjoyed. I later moved to DB Cargo BTT. Although I had an affinity for numbers, I wanted to get more involved in the operational side of the business and switched to product management as a project manager. I later took over as department manager for container transport. My experience in controlling helped me a lot here.

What I like at DB Cargo BTT is that I can discover new interests, integrate them into my day-to-day work and constantly progress. With my employer's support, I was able to complete my Master's degree alongside my job. This taught me new ways of thinking and working. I'm very happy to work in an environment where change is welcomed and we push new ideas forward as a team."

Natalie – Senior transport manager – specialises in damaged wagon management

"I can perfectly combine my expertise from two areas."

Natalie – Senior transport manager – specialises in damaged wagon management

"I work as a senior transport manager in the Operations department, where I'm responsible for the management of damaged tank wagons. In this role, I act as an interface between Equipment and Transport Management. Damaged wagon management is one of the logistics services we offer both for our leased tank wagon fleet and for our customers' equipment.

I completed my training as a management assistant for freight forwarding and logistics services at DB Cargo BTT. I then went into Equipment Management before moving to Transport Management a few years later. In my current role with responsibility for damaged wagon management, I can perfectly combine my expertise from both areas and provide my counterparts from both teams with the necessary information.

I like the fact that my job is varied and that I always have to act quickly and find solutions. I have good development opportunities here and can keep expanding my knowledge. Even when we were working from home, we collaborated brilliantly as a team."

Daniel - Senior account manager – from trainee to senior

"There's a great spirit in my team."

Daniel - Senior account manager – from trainee to senior

"As a senior account manager, I look after international key accounts from the mineral oil industry and am responsible for sales revenues and implementing strategic targets. This also includes developing new logistics concepts, handling freight enquiries and, of course, marketing our products.

I started at DB Cargo BTT to train as a management assistant for freight forwarding and logistics services. I was then able to complete a Bachelor's degree course that was integrated with my job. My employer gave me great support with that. Throughout this time, I was still responsible for mineral oil customers and continued my professional development.

My job is very varied – no two days are the same and I enjoy being proactive in responding to new developments. The regular external meetings contribute to the variety of topics I cover. There's a great spirit in my team and I can rely on the support of my colleagues."

Sonja - Account manager, works part-time

"After parental leave, I joined the team again straight away."

Sonja - Account manager, works part-time

"I work as an account manager for customers in the chemical industry, for both rail-only and combined transport. My tasks include serving and advising my customers and developing new transport concepts. In my role, I act as the interface between our customers and everyone involved in implementing their transport requirements.

I came to DB Cargo BTT and the logistics business as an industry outsider. However, I was able to learn the ropes quickly and soon took on my own customer base. I recently became a mother and now work part-time so that I can be there for my son. It's great that I was able to rejoin the team straight after parental leave and continue to look after my old customers.

I like working here because customers' needs are always evolving and it's never boring. We work together closely as a team and support each other."
